How much does one of these things cost anyway?

One of the first questions I almost always get asked after I tell people that I work for an elevator company is, “How much does one of those things cost anyway?”.

A residential elevator can cost you from about $20,000 to upwards of $40,000 depending on layout and finishes. The spectrum is quite wide as there are many options that help determine the final cost to the customer when installing an elevator from Federal Elevator. The number of stops, number of entrances, speed choice, the difference in your doors and even the variety of finishing cosmetic options can greatly affect the price of a custom residential elevator.

We’ve seen a number of different types of customers over the years, from the folks that require an elevator as a necessity to customers who showcase their elevator as one of the gems of their estate home. In the end, they are always pleased with the end result, a solid product that helps makes their lives a bit easier.

I recently went to one of our finished estate homes to photograph their elevator and the homeowner made an interesting remark to me. “You know,” she said, “when my husband first told me that we were going to have an elevator installed in our home, I told him that he was crazy!!. I have had to take back my comment as after we had the elevator installed, I realized the benefit of this feature of our home.”

She went to tell me the countless times she uses the elevator for hauling laundry up or down, for helping elderly guests to reach the lower or upper levels of her home. This lady also has some issues with arthritis in her knees and she uses the elevator every day as the home is large and the distances between floors are pretty significant. I enjoy hearing our client’s opinions of our product after they have had a chance to live with it for a while.

In closing, my humble opinion is that for a small fraction of the cost of your home, you can have a product that will be helpful in many ways and will increase the value and appeal of your home. Why not have “one of these things” installed in your home?! Contact us today for an estimate.
